Jimbo, Victoria’s favourite drag Queen and clown

I was petrified of clowns growing up. Their hidden expressions behind thick make up and unpredictable behaviour. Classic fear. Which is why I may have been slightly hesitant when asked to capture Jimbo.

During early Covid times the creative team “Studio 549" in Chinatown asked me to help with stills. Things were quiet at the time and thought why not? Two and half years later, possibly 35 shoots and counting, I continue in awe with the incredible drag queen-clown and artist Jimbo. Living only a block apart, we have become spontaneous and quick with ideas. Sometimes elaborate, sometimes very simple. I rarely know what to expect and the element of surprise is incessant. True brilliance and eye candy! Brady, his partner is an equal weight to his success with managing, details, complex wigs and communication (to mention a few of the tasks). There is of course a large team of people, too many to mention, who help with sets, lighting, costume fitting and the long list goes on.

Jimbo was a favourite for many in Canada’s Drag Race. Witty, clever, funny and somewhat different from the others. In line with today’s need to explore self visual expression.

As I write this, Jimbo and his partner Brady are travelling the globe with relentless shows lined up and both welcomed and admired where ever they go.

… AND bonus for me, I no longer fear clowns, thank you Jimbo! Well, so long as it’s a friendly clown:)
